China's CXMT makes its first HBM3E chips, closing the AI memory gap
What changed
China’s leading memory maker, ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), has begun producing HBM3E, a fast type of memory used in many current AI processors. Production is currently limited to small quantities.
What this means for you
This gives China a domestic source for memory used in AI processors, but the limited production means it is not yet broadly available. The development could matter to companies building or buying AI hardware if supply expands.
